Basic Requirements
Authors may only submit one manuscript per issue cycle.
- If you submit multiple manuscripts, all of them will be desk rejected.
The Journal on Baltic Security will not consider manuscripts if they are currently under consideration with another publication or if the materials have been published elsewhere.
Manuscripts should be written in UK English and use the Harvard citation style.
- If you submit in a different format, the editorial team may reject the manuscript.
- If the manuscript is moved forward, it will be the responsibility of the author to change the formatting.
Research articles should fall within 7,000-10,000 words without the bibliography.
Book reviews should fall within 1,000-3,000 words without the bibliography.
- If you would like to request an exception be made on word count, please contact Ms. Eden Elizabeth Armstrong at eden.armstrong@baltdefcol.org directly with a well-reasoned explanation as per why the parameters of the word count would be detrimental to the quality of the manuscript. Exceptions are considered but not guaranteed.
All submissions must include a detailed AI Usage Statement that outlines which AI platforms were used, how they were used, the extent to which they were used, and if the author(s) take full responsibility and accountability for the submitted materials.
The Journal on Baltic Security requires all instances of conflicts of interest and/or competing interests to be declared immediately upon discovery. Please send a detailed explanation to Ms. Eden Elizabeth Armstrong directly at eden.armstrong@baltdefcol.org.
Manuscripts should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.docx) attachment in an email sent to journal@baltdefcol.org.
Other Specifications
In a footnote on the first page, all authors, including co-authors and contributing authors, must be named with their relevant affiliations.
- Relevant institutions means the current affiliation as well as where the research was conducted, if different.
Please declare if the research was conducted independently, at a previous institution, or as part of a funded research project or programme.
If the author(s) deem it necessary, please indicate that the thoughts expressed in the article do not necessarily represent the official position of the institution of which they are affiliated.
General Timeline
Articles can be submitted throughout the year. However, each issue has a hard submission deadline for consideration. Please see the most recent Call for Papers for more information.
The desk review process can take time as content verification occurs as well. The corresponding Editor-in-Chief will give their best estimate on a decision date.
The peer review process normally takes between 6-8 weeks if there are no reasons for delay.
The rest of the editing process can take anywhere between 4-12 weeks depending on the severity of the content and language editing that needs done on a manuscript.
These are general timelines for setting expectation, however they are not guaranteed. An Editor-in-Chief will be in touch regarding specifics at the time of submission.
