COPE Ethical Guidelines
First and foremost, the Editors-in-Chief retain the right to cancel the publication of the accepted submission, publish a "Note of Concern", or retract the article, depending on the severity of the ethics concerns and misconduct.
For more information about raising concerns surrounding misconduct, please consult the COPE Ethical Guidelines: https://publicationethics.org/guidance/guideline/sharing-information-among-editors-chief-about-possible-misconduct.
Pre-Publication Misconduct
The Journal on Baltic Security submits manuscripts to non-repository Turnitin for a similarity check upon submission. All instances of similarity flagged are investigated fully.
After the Editor-in-Chief's desk read, the Managing Editor conducts content verification to help ensure that sources cited are not being manipulated or misrepresented.
After the peer-review process and the accepted authors' round of content edits, the Managing Editor conducts an additional round of content verification to ensure that the updated material is also being used appropriately.
If it is found that submitted content is misrepresented, falsified, or fabricated at any point during the publishing process, the manuscript is rejected; if the manuscript has already been accepted, the Editors-in-Chief retain the right to cancel the publication of the accepted submission.
Post-Publication Misconduct
If research misconduct is brought to light after publication, the Editors-in-Chief of the Journal on Baltic Security will follow our internal regulations for convening an Ethics Committee. The Ethics Committee will consult the COPE Guidelines on proper procedures for the public retraction of published works.
The Editors-in-Chief retain the right to publish a "Note of Concern" or retract the article, depending on the severity of the ethics concerns.
Post-Publication Corrections
Post-Publication corrections will be considered and done in accordance with COPE Guidelines.
Corrections will be updated in the text of articles. Places where the content of the text has changed in these corrections will be marked with a footnote. This footnote will detail: the incorrect information for transparency and make clear that this information was incorrect; reiterate the correct information and offer a citation wherever possible; and note the date that the content of the article was corrected.
Corrections that cannot offer a citation, such as errors in methods or analysis, will offer a detailed explanation of the corrected material.
Grammatical and language mistakes that fundamentally change the meaning of the content are considered major and will be footnoted as above.
Minor grammatical mistakes (i.e. a missing comma in a bibliography reference or a single quotation mark instead of a double quotation mark) will not be noted.
Retractions
Articles can and will be retracted by an Editor-in-Chief in accordance with COPE Retraction Guidelines.
For more information, please visit: https://publicationethics.org/guidance/guideline/retraction-guidelines
In case of retractions, the Editors-in-Chief will publish a formal retraction notice on the Journal on Baltic Security website detailing the incident and justification for its retraction.
